Christmas Puppy Chow
Puppy chow, chex mix, monkey mess, whatever it is that you call it --this has the be the easiest snack you can whip up in no time. The best part about it is that you can tweek it a bit for any time of year. Since there seems to be an unlimited amount of candy canes around and for some reason the mixture of white chocolate and mint just screams Christmas at me, I decided to use that for this batch.
I'm just realizing now that I don't think I shared the recipe for my cookies with you in my last post ..how rude and inconvenient of me!
The measurements for puppy chow aren't super important, but it only seems fair to include them for you anyway.
So here goes:
Rice chex cereal -4 cups
White chocolate chips -1 cup
Butter -1 Tbls
Powdered sugar -1 cup
Candy canes -5 minis?
First thing's first -- you want to dump your chocolate in a microwavable bowl and add your butter. You want to melt the chocolate (and I know that chocolate can be a bit pesky sometimes), so I like to do it in a few sets of 20 second intervals. After each 20 second period, take the chocolate out and give it a good stir --once it's fully melted, you're good to go!
Set your chocolate aside for a minute while you put your Chex cereal in a large bowl. Pour your melted chocolate (make sure it's runny enough!) over the cereal and gently stir it until it's covered.
After I covered the cereal with the chocolate I poured the powdered sugar on top and gave it a good toss (just like a tossed salad??). In order to make sure the candy cane pieces stuck to the cereal I melted a few more chocolate chips and mixed the candy cane in with it and then added it to the mixture.
Feel free to crush your candy canes how ever you like, and I'm not kidding when I say the measurements are not set in stone--throw as many candy canes as you want in there! I just wanted it to be a subtle hint of mint in my puppy chow so I only chose to put a few mini ones in.
PS. I used a plastic baggy and the bottom of a glass bottle to crush my candy canes.
Hope everyone had a very Merry Christmas!
Until next time,
